Our Story

Our Own Thread, Our Own Heritage.

The name Swadaara is derived from two meaningful Kannada words – “Swanta” (our own) and “Daara” (thread), together signifying “Our Own Thread.”

The inspiration behind Swadaara comes from the spirit of India’s historic Swadeshi Movement, a movement that encouraged people to value and support locally made products, local artisans, and indigenous craftsmanship.

Our Own Thread

We believe that the thread woven on our soil, by our artisans, carries a value far beyond fabric. It carries culture, identity, skill, and generations of knowledge. Every product we promote is a tribute to the hands that create it and the traditions that keep it alive.

Swadaara About

Our Vision

A Future Where Handloom Thrives

We envision a future where handloom is not seen as a niche product but as an essential part of everyday life – where weavers receive the dignity, recognition, and economic opportunities they deserve.

A future where traditional craftsmanship thrives alongside modern lifestyles. Where every thread carries the weight of culture, community, and conscious choice.

Because when we support handloom, we are not just preserving a craft – we are preserving livelihoods, culture, and a legacy that belongs to all of us.

Why We Exist

More than a saree

Handloom is not merely a textile tradition – it is one of India’s largest sources of livelihood after agriculture. Thousands of weaving families across Karnataka depend on handloom weaving, yet their contributions often remain unseen and underappreciated.

“Our mission is not just to sell sarees. Our mission is to strengthen the ecosystem that sustains the weaver, the artisan, and the craft itself.”

Swadaara Sakhi

Women Self Help Groups

Empowering Women

Empowering women strengthens families, communities, and local economies.

Swadaara is proudly a women-led initiative. Through our Sakhi Women Self Help Groups, we create livelihood opportunities for women while supporting traditional crafts such as Kasuti embroidery and handloom-based value-added products.

By connecting women’s groups, artisans, and customers through a common purpose, we create a sustainable ecosystem that benefits everyone involved — from weaver to wearer.
